An eSIM is a digital SIM built into many newer smartphones and devices. Instead of inserting a physical SIM card, you can install a mobile data plan digitally and connect to supported cellular networks while you travel.
After purchasing a OneRoam plan, you install the OneRoam eSIM on your compatible, carrier-unlocked device. Once activated and connected to a supported network, your phone uses the OneRoam eSIM for mobile data while you travel.
Yes. Your phone must be both eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked to use OneRoam.
A phone can support eSIM technology but still be locked to a mobile carrier. If you are unsure whether your phone is unlocked, contact your current mobile carrier before purchasing a plan.

- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Scroll down to Carrier Lock.
If you see “No SIM restrictions,” your iPhone is unlocked and can use a OneRoam eSIM. If you see a carrier name or another message, contact your mobile carrier to confirm your phone’s unlock status and request an unlock if eligible.
On Android:
The steps vary by phone manufacturer and carrier. One simple way to check is:
- Open Settings.
- Go to Connections, Network & Internet, or Mobile Network.
- Look for an option to add an eSIM or select another mobile network.
Because Android menus and carrier-lock indicators vary by device, the most reliable way to confirm that your phone is unlocked is to contact your current mobile carrier.
